The stented (frame-supported) aortic tissue valve is the most common implanted valve in the western world, where greater emphasis on aortic valve replacement has helped significantly reduce rheumatic heart disease.

Mitral valve disease remains highly significant in developing countries and, while mitral valves are generally more amenable to repair than aortic valves, both tend to require replacement. For this reason OwlMed has developed a range of valve replacements for both types.
